Just make sure to apply it very thin, and then give it a very thorough wipe down after applying to get rid of all the excess product.

I would apply it, wipe off the excess, let it dry, then thoroughly wipe off all the excess again.

If it gets on the paint, you can simply wipe it off, it won't cause any problems to the paint.
