Applying wax in direct sunlight can be a bit challenging due to the faster drying time and potential for streaks or uneven application, but it can still be done. If it can't be avoided, here are some tips and best practices to help you achieve better results:
  1. Try to work early mornings or early evenings when the sun isn't as intense.
  2. Try to work on an over cast day.
  3. Try to avoid applying if the surface is super hot. If you are using outdoors in the sun, the surface temperature of your vehicle should be at maximum, warm to the touch (you should be able to comfortably hold your hands against your paint).
  4. Use smaller amounts: Rather than applying large amounts at once, use smaller quantities and spread it evenly. This approach helps prevent the wax from drying too quickly and allows you to work on smaller sections effectively OR if using a spray wax, instead of spraying the product direct onto your vehicle, spray your cloth with the product and wipe it on your vehicle, this will help prevent over application.
  5. Direct sunlight speeds up the drying time of wax, so you need to work efficiently. After applying, try to work quickly to buff it off as soon as it's ready. For spray wax, that means working quick and fast, for a cream/paste wax, simply reduce the drying time as you'll see it will setup much quicker than usual.
